In English Classes today students discussed plagiarism and intellectual property. A video clip from iSafe was shown on the morning news. Please comment on the following questions:

1. Is plagiarizing ever ok?
2. If you forgot that a report is due on Monday, and a big part of your grade depends on it, and there’s no way to get it done over the weekend, what do you do?
3. A friend is copying his/her entire report from the Internet. You’ve worked hard on yours. What do you do? Let him/her get an underserved “A”? Or let your teacher know what’s going on?
4. How can you avoid plagiarism?

At lunchtime the original Adina’s Deck episode will be shown in the library. Please feel free to comment on that movie as well.

This week’s Crocker Connections Forum addresses issues of online socializing. Students viewed the latest Adina’s Deck award winning film The Case of the Online Crush. We were fortunate to have Debbie Heimowitz and Jason Azicri (co-creators) at the meeting to lead a discussion. We asked the Tech Reps from each advisory to attend the forum and to share highlights with advisories.

More information about Adina’s Deck can be seen at their fantastic website. On the site there is a lot of information about the film and you can view 4 promos for the movie. Also, if you go to YouTube and look up the movie there is a lot of clips there too. Check out this clip of Debbie and Jason on the Fox Morning News!

How do you stay safe online while socializing?

During your Extended Advisory you will be discussing the following questions:

1.      What are some examples of online situations where you’ve been asked for personal information?
2.      What information did Shauna reveal about herself in the video?
3.      What do your screen names or email addresses reveal about you?
4.      Can you identify some of the steps in the grooming process that Goalie 789 used on Monica?

Welcome Crocker students, staff and parents to the official Crocker Middle School CyberSafety website. This site will have information about our CyberSafety week (January 26-30). The activities of the week are listed to the right. Each day we will have a new post and we hope that all of you will take the time to respond. We think that this week is very important and informative for all students at Crocker. We look forward to a successful week of Cyber Awareness!
